Chef Philippe Delacourcelle uses spices like few other of his French counterparts. Take his salt cod with cassia bark and smoked potato purée: what the fish lacks in size it makes up for in crunchy texture and rich, cinnamon-like flavour, and the super-smooth potato cooked in a smoker makes a startling accompaniment. You can finish it all off with Delacourcelle’s roast figs with olives.

I booked a tablefor lunch for my wife's 40th after careful research. Unfortunately, we were both disappointed. When we arrived the fixed price lunch menu was 'thrust' upon us. After approx 1 minute we realised our mistake and asked for the order to be cancelled and to see th a la carte menu. This prompted a French outburst from the maitre d', which was very embarassing. We didn'tunderstand what he was saying about us but people were looking at us. Remember, we cancelled within a minute of ordering the fixed price lunch menu, which was being ordered by 90% of the customers so it would not have been wasted. This really ruined what was supposed to be a special lunch. The food we did have was ok. The smoked cod described above was ordinary - even boring. We were very disappointed and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone in view of the rudeness of the maitre d' - totally unnecessary in our opinion. Posted on Feb 24 2008 22:03
