Between the Louvre and place de la Concorde, the gravelled alleyways of the gardens have been a chic promenade since they opened in the 16th century. André Le Nôtre created the prototypical French garden with terraces and a central vista through circular and hexagonal ponds. There’s a funfair in summer.
