Place Vendôme
This eight-sided square was conceived to show off an equestrian statue of the Sun King. The central column was modelled on Trajan’s Column in Rome, with a spiral comic strip illustrating Napoléon’s military exploits. During the 1871 Commune it was pulled down; the present column is a replica.
