Sainte-Chapelle

In the 1240s devout King Louis IX bought what was advertised as the Crown of Thorns, and ordered up a suitable shrine: the result was the exquisite Flamboyant Gothic Sainte-Chapelle. With its 15m-high windows, the upper level appears to consist almost entirely of stained glass. The windows depict scenes from the Bible, culminating with the Apocalypse in the rose window.
