This popular Montmartre institution (with original zinc bar) is home to a frenzied mix of alcohol-fuelled transvestites, tourists, lovers and bobo (bohemian-bourgeois) locals, who all come for the cheap beer (under €4), trashy music and buzzy terrace. The decor inside is dark and scruffy, the service undeniably slow and the food (omelettes, steak-frites) nothing special; yet there is something irresistibly refreshing about the no-frills approach that makes this bar stand out from the multitude of try-hard cafés in the area.
