A la Bière review

A la Bière looks like one of those nondescript corner brasseries, but what makes it stand out is an amazingly good-value €13.40 prix fixe full of fine bistro favourites. White tablecloths and fine kirs set the tone; starters of thinly sliced pig's cheek with a nice French dressing on the salad, and a home-made rabbit terrine exceed expectations. The mains live up to what's served before: charcoal-grilled entrecôte with hand-cut chips, and juicy Lyonnais sausages with potatoes drenched in olive oil, garlic and parsley. This is one of the few bargains left in Paris.

I read the review and tried this place. It took me two metro trains to get there an a steep hill to walk to. Just looking at this place was a disappointment. Obviously the reviewer is only looking for price alone and wouldn't know good cuisine if it bit him. The local joint features grubby waiters in jeans and tees. Looking at the cooks peeking out from the kitchen they look very non-French to me. I ordered what turned out to be the worst Salad Nicoise ever. It had a few slices of potatoes and no hard boiled eggs. This salad had at least a whole can of anchovies. I love anchovies but this was overkill. To be honest, I can not remember what I ate for a main dish but it was up to par with the salad. This restaurant is strictly a local cheapo place for non discerning palates. AVOID

This is a family restaurant located in a quiet residential area, easily accessed on the line serviced by Bus 75 route. We had for lunch apertifs, snails (6), & shrimp cocktail. The main course was rump steak with fried potatoes, and pickled green bean salad with garlic, shredded carrots and red pepper chopped. With coffee (or dessert) the total cost with .5 litre red wine, was 40 Euros. There is no such deal anywhere for such quality of food. We plan to go again and would highly recommend this restaurant.
