Penang Snake Temple

Updated: 27 Jun 2013

The temple honours a Buddhist monk named Chor Soo Kong who, according to legend, gave shelter to snakes of the jungle. As soon as you enter the temple, wafts of burning incense will greet you. Your focus will soon turn to the pool of snakes, all of which are coiled elegantly on the branches of trees and pillars. Some of the snakes have been de-venomed and for a fee, you can have your photo taken with a snake and contribute to the fund to maintain the temple and feed the snakes.

Jalan Tokong Ular, off Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, Bayan Lepas, Penang.
