Time Out says

April 2013

This food court is more populated by tourists but it doesn’t warrant it the label of ‘tourist trap’, because the food, while not superior to those offered elsewhere, is decent. However, some of the dishes offered here tend to cost just a little more than other Penang food courts.

While the Western or international fare such as teppanyaki or crumbed chicken chop offered in this small food court is quite appetising and comes in a rather large portion, their quirkier offerings such as small Chinese pancakes filled with slices of sausages and cheese are way more interesting. Of course, you can stick to the safe bet of creamy corn and slices of bananas at RM1.80 in the pancakes but how about a little adventure and try ham and pineapple, instead for a little more than RM2?

What’s popular here is the large, crusty-skinned, deep-fried popiah filled with julienned carrots and sengkuang and minced meat that adds a soft touch to its crunchy texture. At RM3 a roll, it’s certainly a hearty appetiser and it’s better than most popiah served in other places.

Now, on the local front, familiar eats such as satay, a small range of noodles and tandoori chicken with either naan or biryani rice are part of this food court’s landscape. Char Hor Fun here costs more than other food courts at RM5 and is mediocre in taste at best. For a true feast, sink your teeth into the generous portion of tandoori chicken  accompanied by briyani, dipping sauces and dahl for around RM12. Otherwise, replace the briyani with fluffy naan and create a wrap instead!

While this place is right on Batu Ferringhi beach, the beach is hardly seen from where you sit to eat within its claustrophobic square. The beach is however, sort of accessible, if you’re wanting an after dinner stroll under the moonlight. Grab a scoop of Haagen Dasz ice cream before leaving this food court for your walk on the beach. Yes, they have it there and also fried ice cream! Su Aziz
