Ayu Mee Udang
Only slightly akin to the Chinese version of the prawn noodle, Ayu’s mee udang is a bowl of yellow noodles with a starchy, red, tomato based soup that bears a whiff of the flavour of the prawn shells; Ayu has opted for prawns that are, instead of the usual small-sized ones, the succulent, fleshy sort. So, it is no surprise that the price of Ayu’s prawn noodles should come at a price almost triple that of the normal bowl had elsewhere (the small bowl with three prawns costs RM15 and the bigger bowl with six prawns costs RM22); but before you have it dismissed, take note that given the size of the prawns (and how clean the place is), the subject of whether the price is warranted is, actually, a debatable one.
