A labour of love by anthropologist. academician, author and heritage conservationist, Dr. Wazir Jahan Karim, Jawi House is both cafe and gallery along Lebuh Armenian. The cafe opens six days a week and serves Jawi Peranakan and Colonial themed menu like lemuni rice, balmieh (lamb chunks stewed in tomatoes and Peranakan herbs) and home made red velvet Astoria. Complementing the essence of Jawi Peranakan culture is a gallery teeming with hand printed batik sarong and songket, rare silver and brassware, contemporary acrylic and charcoal paintings as well as home crafts weaved lovingly by talented single mothers.
