Lang Sae Lee Thai Food
Time Out says
Hands down, this restaurant wins in terms of ambience. Located at almost the end of Tan Jetty on Weld Quay, it offers such a lovely view of the neighbouring Clan Jetties, Penang’s waters and sunset. Offering a myriad of Thai dishes, its lovely ambience, is hardly matched by their food.
It’s a tricky one ordering here. There are some hits and misses. From their menu, we opt to try their pad thai at RM8. The thick, floury noodles hold almost no flavour. Their basil leaf rice of steamed rice with a serving of stir-fried string beans, prawns and basil leaves enough for one at RM8, is all right to stave off hunger if nothing else.
However, their plate of stir-fried dow miew vegetables or pea shoot leaves at RM8 is perfectly tasty and so is their chunky, fresh calamari lightly battered and deep-fried at RM18 for a serving enough for two. Their tomyam and steamed fish are quite authentic and tasty, though.
Therefore, we’ve conclude that while they may not shine in small dishes, their crowd pleasers may be their more expensive ones consisting of seafood and the like. Still, it’ll remain a favourite simply because it’s in a unique spot amid rickety wood-planked jetty and bouts of rustic charm.
Drinks wise, there are beers available here or opt for their coconut drink at RM8 per fruit. The drink’s naturally sweet and cooling too. Kitty Kaye
