This restaurant has been in existence in Malaysia for a while now. They were one of the first to introduce the brown sauce in Malaysia that drowned hearty pies, rotisserie chicken and mash potatoes. Also, back in those days when sandwiches made with good bread and thick fillings were scarce, they served it at reasonable prices.
Today, the branch they have in the lower ground floor of Queensbay Mall offers all this and more. From the looks of the lunchtime crowd queuing at their pay as you order counter, their popularity hasn’t waned. And gladly, neither has the quality of their food.
So far, their menu hasn’t changed much. Their beef rissole at RM15.90 is pan-fried to perfection with just a touch of crisp at the edges. Served with a generous dollop of mash, coleslaw and spoonfulls of brown sauce, this is the food for the hungry and the carnivorous. Their rotisserie or roasted chicken comes in quarter or half serving, along with mash and coleslaw while their fish and chips is of the traditional British batter.
For a more dainty appetite, a medium sized steak and mushroom or chicken and mushroom pie drenched in brown sauce at RM7.90 each, is just enough to hit the spot. The pies have a thin, buttery crust and ample filling. Yes, they have Shepherd’s pie too and it’s not too big a portion either. And because it’s pay as you order, all their prices are nett and their service is efficient, which makes the place a perfect one for real food during rushed lunch hour. Su Aziz
