Time Out says

Five27 has relocated to Lebuh Chulia and now serves Western fare.

October 2013

Scandinavian restaurants run on a fine scanty line in a town where street food is king. Five27 is one that sneaks in unexpectedly, serving casual dining option of authentic and honest Nordic food. This one boasts an air of contemporary chic with a hint of cheekiness through hand-drawn murals of beer bottls and ingredients that lines your food. Early recommendations indicate their salmon and meatballs are their must-tries.

Having lunch here on a weekday has the plus point of a serene ambience of Straits Quay marina. Over their three-course set lunch menu or a la carte order, conversations can be had uninterrupted. A glass or two of their sangria not only stave off the tropical heat but also adds colour to your lunch.

Tuna Tataki Salad

Between 11.30am to 4pm daily, their lunch menu can double as a brunch and we recommend an order of tuna tataki salad at RM23++. The chunks of pan-seared tuna rolled in a thick layer of sesame seeds hold a firm texture and juicy flavour while the Japanese-style dressing with hints of nutty sesame oil lends a memorable flavour to the crunchy greens supporting the dish. The salad is a good, solid helping and may well keep you satisfied for a while.

However, it is a good one to pair with their organic smoked pork burger topped with, strangely, spicy rambutan salsa. The unique combination makes for an inimitable collision of flavours. One that is savoury, juicy and sweet all at the same time.

Organic Pork Burger with spicy rambutan salsa

There’s a beef burger on their menu too, and it’s topped by caramelised onions, pineapple and rosemary salsa. So, imagine that on the palate! The burgers come with wedges and fries respectively at RM28++each, and you can add a couple more ringgit for the luxury of oozing melted cheese.

Food here is made from scratch and their flavours reflect a hybrid of crisp Scandinavian, spicy Indonesian and a playful departure from convention. The very ingredients that their in-house chef, Nizar Achmad, are made of.

For a more complete meal, settle for their set lunch at RM35++ consisting of a soup or salad, a choice out of four wraps, dessert and a beverage. The good news is, there’s also a salad menu of RM20++ for those watching their waistline and may prefer to forego a carb-laden meal. Their dinner menu kicks off at 5pm. Kitty Kaye
