James Foo Western Food Fettes Park
Time Out says
James Foo serves the usual Western fare such as mixed grill, chicken chop and salmon steak in Hainanese style. The place is really value for money and seems to be popular with families. They only served dinner when they first open but today, they serve set lunches between 12pm and 3.30pm.
Food wise, expect to get what you pay for. For instance, we tried out their set lunch menu and their peppermint chicken chop served with a scoop of raisin-rice and salad is perfectly acceptable at RM10.90. The sauce that drenched the deep-fried egg-batter chop is a tad too tangy but peppermint leaves lent a helping hand in terms of flavour. The batter that coats the chop is both crispy and thick but tasty enough.
Their lunch set menu consists of between nine and 12 dishes of pork, chicken and fish that's either deep fried and coated in batter or grilled but always drenched in sauce. There are, for instance, fish and chips, sweet and sour pork and black pepper chicken. Each portion for the set menu at lunch time comes with a dollop of coleslaw and a drink.
The ambience of this place balances casual, fast food dining and cafe style. There are no frills but there's adequate efficiency in terms of service. However, save this eatery for another time if you're in a super rush for lunch. We've been told that their crunchy Hainanese spring roll at the Fettes Park outlet is a must-try. Kitty Kaye
