Malaysia’s most acclaimed actor and director, Tan Sri P Ramlee, was born in Penang and his regional and international impact on stage and screen is acknowledged on the island at P Ramlee House, a museum situated, appropriately enough, on Jalan P Ramlee (formerly Caunter Hall Road). The house was originally built by Tan Sri P Ramlee’s father and uncle in 1926 and displays items of the director, actor, singer and composer’s life, including intimate personal items belonging to his family. Tan Sri P Ramlee was a multi-award winner at the Asian Film Festival and is the definitive Malay film director in history with 66 films and 360 songs to his credit.
