Head to this bistro for a great variety of German and other imported beers. This is their second outlet in Penang and Berlin’s Bier Houz sets its sights on providing Penangnites with distinctive and quality German and European fare. While they offer a staggering 43 brands of beer, note that this is primarily an eatery as opposed to a bar.
Food wise, it's comforting pub grub that their menu offers. While we tried burgers from their Straits Quay branch, here, we give real comfort food a try to calm a throbbing head. First up, mushroom soup. It comes in almost a turine, which translates to a good, large portion of thick, creamy, soup filled with chopped mushrooms and a slice of garlic toast for RM9.90++. Be wary of ordering this and another main course if you're a small eater!
Next up, fish and chips for RM25.80++. Unsurprisingly, the portion is satisfying enough for a large apetite. On the whole, the main dish is satisfying even though the batter that coats the fish is a tad too thick. Nevertheless, the thick-cut fries and accompanyng salad complete each forkful perfectly.
Now, which beer might we recommend to pair up with these two food choices? Erdinger Weissbier on tap, of course! A darker ale than a normal beer, the beer's milder in terms of bitterness and hints at a light sweetness that's pleasant. A glass here is RM14++ and we bet you won't regret it. Kitty Kaye
