All the way at the highest level of 1st Avenue Mall, where the cinemas are, stands a little booth selling nothing else but fries. Aptly called ‘Crazy Potato’, it’s an English franchise and their thick-cut fries are prepared fresh as you order. There are myriad toppings or dips you can have slathered atop your hot, crispy on the outside and powdery-soft on the inside, fries for RM8.80 per serving.
The toppings range from pickle mayonnaise, cheddar, sour cream to Crazy Meaty. Even though the mayonnaise is on the sweet side, the bits of pickles in it redeem it a little. What we’d recommend is the Crazy Meaty which is basically meaty bolognaise sauce that makes the serving a meal unto itself. For a dash of spicy, try the wasabi mayonnaise with your order of fries. Although, the simplicity of the sour cream, we feel, effortlessly allows the fries to shine. Sprinkle a little salt atop this combination and you’ve got a hit!
Although the booth closes at 10pm on most nights, it remains open till 11pm on late movie nights. Soft drinks are at RM2.20 here and the young proprietor of this booth is a friendly, attentive one. There's also another of branch of this booth on the lower ground floor of Gurney Plaza. Su Aziz
