Farquhar Mansion

Turning three in July 2017, Farquhar Mansion is terrifically popular come tea time, when groups of girlfriends titter over tiered trays stacked with the usual suspects: scones, spreads, sandwiches and sweets. Lunch and dinner dates here are, however, a much more intimate affair. Past the sun-drenched parlour, up a short flight of stairs and into a shadowy private dining room goes your party upon making prior reservations. Helmed by Executive Chef DR Tan and Senior Sous Min Ong, the kitchen pieces together its seasonal menu in accordance with international imports.

When you pair French flavours with a sweeping view of Penang and its newly completed second bridge, it has to come to only one thing – intoxication. In a good way, we mean! This restaurant within Hotel Equatorial Penang is probably one of Bukit Jambul’s well-kept secrets in Penang. Offering French-influenced food, the restaurant is intimate and dimly lit. So, put on your sexiest cocktail dress and glittery-heeled sandals to match the ambience here.

Located right on top of lovely Penang Hill, you can opt to either take the funicular train or a private jeep to get to this restaurant offering western food. We recommend the former simply because the ride up gives you a sense of adventure and the restaurant is a skip, hop and jump from the train station on top of the hill. A little more casual ambience can be had here and don’t forget a shawl for when the temperature drops after sunset. Best time to be here is just before the sun retires for the day. Besides your date, we promise you, the view will be breathtaking.

Easily the most coveted eatery at Macalister Mansion, The Dining Room is equal parts chic and playful. The uncompromisingly romantic ambiance and jaw-dropping food presentation promises an aphrodisiac experience. The extensive drinks menu is especially impressive where wine and single malt whiskies are concerned.

You can guess by its name what this restaurant’s all about. Yes, it’s all obviously spelt out, so you’ll know what to expect. Elegantly served food amid stylish interior will be the core ingredient to your romantic night here. And its location perched on the water at the end of Church Street Pier makes it an interesting venue too.
