Antiquarians wanting authentic places to stay, take note: in 2003, the Prague Municipality recognised the Iron Gate as the best historic reconstruction. The two buildings date from the 14th and 16th centuries; management has preserved the original painted ceiling beams and frescoes, and, to maintain the Gothic look, the suites' kitchenettes are discreetly tucked inside antique armoires. The Tower Suite is over the top in more ways than one: on three floors of the building, it features a heart-shaped bed, a jacuzzi built for two, and a study suitable for the astronomer Johannes Kepler, with views of the Old Town Hall, Prague Castle and acres of orange roof tiles.
