Surely one of the most luxurious B&Bs in the world, La Residenza Napoleone III, named after an illustrious former resident, is run by Principessa Letizia Ruspoli in a wing of her own home, the 16th-century Palazzo Ruspoli near via Condotti. The three-room suite is magnificent, with hand-stencilled walls, a canopied bed, luxurious drapery and vast oil paintings aplenty (a marble bathroom is hidden behind one, while modern-day amenities that might jar with the imperial ambience - DVD projection screen, hi-fi, kitchenette - are tucked away behind others). The Roof Garden Suite in the attic is more intimate, and has a lovely lavender-planted terrace. A sumptuous breakfast is served on Bulgari silver, and a butler is available on request to attend to guests' every whim.
