Founded in 1933, the San Francisco Ballet is the longest-running professional ballet company in the US. In 1939, it presented the first full-length US production of Coppélia, followed in 1940 by the country's first complete Swan Lake. The company is based in the War Memorial Opera House, and its annual season (Feb-May) is typically an even blend of traditional pieces and new works.
