Head to the El Rio on a Sunday afternoon and make your way to the garden, where you'll find SF's most diverse and lively salsa party: a local tradition for more than 25 years and now taking place year-round. There's an outdoor barbecue, dancing lessons, decent margaritas and a friendly crowd of straights and queers. Other nights you might encounter experimental rock, DJs or the odd home-grown film festival.
