4Qs with...Hamish Brown, Gold 90FM DJ
You read the weather after the news on your morning show. Do you find it tedious repeating the same thing every day? (It’s hot. It’s humid. It’s raining.)
Absolutely! Familiarity breeds contempt! Singapore weather can be done by anybody with their eyes shut, both arms tied behind their back and with one leg stuck in a hole. ‘Weather for Singapore: showers likely in a few areas and temperatures peaking at 33 degrees…’ Once, just once, wouldn’t it be lovely to hear: ‘Flurries down the eastern seaboard, high-pressure winds cooling your evenings to an 18 degree chill, so make sure you bring that big, lovable hunk of a boyfriend along with you to snuggle up to…’ Now, that would be a weather report to prick up your ears, wouldn’t it?
Have you ever had a moment when you thought you would freak out on air (weather-related or not)?
What makes you think we are not freaking out every time we switch the microphone on? Imagine not having to get tongue-tied, carrying on a coherent, cohesive, complete, funny and involving conversation with your on-air partner while keeping tabs on how many minutes are left before the news. Making sure that you do not leave out any commercials on the log, making sure that words and names of individuals are correctly pronounced and products are presented in a winning manner so that the advertiser is happy. [But] it gives us such a rush, we love it to bits – bring it on, baby!
Favourite ways to cool down when it’s really hot?
Sunken pool bar, constant supply of tequila sunrises, an eye-pleasing bikini parade, and me in the pool, in the thick of it all.
We hear you shave your pits. Does it actually help, considering our humid climate?
Yes, it does. Makes a woman sit up and take notice of you, just because.
