Tips from taxi drivers - July 2008
On cheap eats
Go Upper Thomson Road – tell any cabbie the landmark: Long Beach. It’s great cuttlefish – only $12.50! Just don’t go to Orchard Road. It’s for tourists and they don’t care what they pay.
On being a cabbie
I’ve been driving since you were in diapers. Since 1970. Were you alive in 1970? No. I was born to drive a taxi. I haven’t moved since 1970. I drive day and night.
On paying with NETS
Must accept lah. Sometimes, customer no have cash, so he must use NETS. Even if I complain, cannot make money appear.
On all the construction
It’s good. Singapore is a very small country without natural resources. You have to change, change, change, otherwise you no survive.
On saving the planet
Recycle your magazines. Just leave them in the seat pocket behind the driver.
