What's in your stacks? - DJ Shellsuit

Issue 10

1. ‘Check My Machine’ by Paul McCartney
Dubbed-out track with a bouncy bassline. B-side to the aptly named wet ballad ‘Waterfalls’ and one of my favourite finds digging for records in Singapore.

2. ‘This Land Is Your Land’ by Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings
Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings do soul and funk as it was done in the late ’60s and early ’70s, even down to the recording techniques. The 2005 album Naturally is full of good tracks, but this is the standout for me because of its political angle and attitude.

3. ‘Girls Girls Girls’ by Sailor
Fellow Pushin’On DJ, Stop, put me onto this. Everybody loves songs about girls, especially girls. Watch the YouTube video for a good laugh.

4. ‘Hold On’ by Foreign Beggars feat. DVS & Skinnyman
A UK hip-hop anthem. Double-time beat, sinister bassline, rapid-fire vocals and a chorus with some bloke singing about how he’s going to rob you. Definitely not one for Lush 99.5 listeners.

5. ‘Piece of Mind’ by Linkwood Family
The latest release from Scotland’s Firecracker Records. The whole track is built around a solid disco sample with loads of nice filters and slow down/speed up-type tweaks that’ll keep you hooked.

You can catch DJ Shellsuit and the rest of the Pushin’On crew at Phuture on 22 Dec from 11pm-1am, or upstairs at Blu Jaz Café on the last Friday of every month.
