The Feast of Han Xizai, a thousand-year-old Tang dynasty painting now kept in the National Museum of Beijing in the Forbidden City, serves as the point of departure for this tale of bon vivant Han Xizai, who gives up a life of luxury to become a wandering musician. Featuring the delicate and ancient artform of liyuan opera and nanyin music, it blends drama and minimalist sets into musical theatre. Created and performed by Taiwanese Han Tang Yuefu Ensemble, with sets and costumes designed by Yip Kam Ting, winner of the Academy Award for best artistic director for the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
