To enter this little shophouse is to step into another world – lined with romantic Art Nouveau timber panelling, wall lamps, marble-topped tables and sparkling glints of Klimt artwork, it’s old Vienna come to life and transplanted to the tropics. The fiaker gulasch– a large serving of tender beef cuts, fried egg, sausage and a huge bread dumpling – is terrific. Or just come for the house-ground coffee, a slice of the dense, chocolately Sachertorte and daily newspapers from around the world.
