Take your mama out
Issue 15

Alert: Mother’s Day is 11 May! (You can thank us later.) Maida Pineda has the solution to make your mum feel like a queen on her special Sunday

She’s healthy and you’re not…Just because she’s the sort to count calories doesn’t mean you have to suffer. Take her out to the Pan Pacific Singapore and treat her to Detox at Brunch. She can enjoy the alfresco barbecue buffet lunch featuring nutritious dishes like an antioxidant-rich avocado salad with coconut and detoxifying beetroot salad, while you can partake in the unlimited wine and beer option.
11 May; 11am-3pm. Pan Pacific Hotel.

You both love to drink…The Mother’s Day Vintage Champagne Brunch at Greenhouse (one of three dining options at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore) comes with free-flowing vintage Moët & Chandon champagne and a lavish spread of fresh seafood, pan-fried goose liver, Peking duck and more than 70 varieties of cheese. If you have a little one in tow, pass him or her off to the staff, who will teach the tyke to decorate a cake that can be taken home as a keepsake. While hanging around the hotel, enter a contest to win a night’s stay at The Ritz.
11 May; 11am-1pm, 1.30-3.30pm. $148 (adult), children $85 (ages 6-12), $48 (ages 3-5); The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore.

She likes to do stuff together…A special event held only on Mother’s Day, Nadaman head chef Tomonori Kanemaru’s team demonstrates how to make California rolls, teriyaki chicken and nikujaga (simmered beef and potato), with a hands-on session for the little ones to make their own sushi rolls. Post-class, kids get to tuck into the food they made, plus ice cream and a fun mocktail.
11 May; 9.30am-noon. $48 per child (ages 5-12; includes an apron, chef’s hat, a photograph and a certificate); $38 per adult. Shangri-La Hotel.

She loves cake… Bakerzin (www.bakerzin.com) has three delicious options for you to choose from: ‘Admiration’, with its light Chantilly cream between fluffy sponge layers, bursting with juicy strawberries on top; ‘Affection’, a creamy cheesecake with a strawberry glaze; or ‘Devotion’, an orange-peel-studded cake topped with fresh cream, cocoa powder and golden chocolate pearls, all wrapped in more chocolate. All cakes are priced at $36 each. If she loves her durians, pick up a Durian Oreo cake ($45) or Durian Pandan Coconut cake ($45) from the Goodwood Park Hotel. Or just shower her with an overload of strawberries, blackberries, raspberries and redcurrants in a fluffy Berrie Folie cake ($45) from the Gourmet Carousel.

You’re a little low on cash…At Whitebait & Kale, mums get a complimentary main from the à la carte Sunday brunch menu – such as the classic eggs benedict with dill mustard sauce ($16), or the signature beer-battered fish and chips with malt vinegar ($22) – when they dine with a paying adult (that means you) or two kids.
11 May; 10am-4pm.
