Le Tonkin

What a delightful little bolthole this is, especially in the evening out on the verandah tables. The dual menu is French and Vietnamese and we suspect the pull is the latter option. Especially delightful is the wonderfully named cha ca la vong, a sizzling fried sea bass smothered with a paste of golden turmeric and fresh dill. Pair that with a superb pomelo salad studded with prawns and peanuts, and beef pho drenched in an earthy, rich broth. Gold wallpaper, timber panels and starched linen complete the muted IndoChine vibe, though service can be a little patchy.

Despite living on MOhamed Sultan i'd never been to Le tonkin until last night. We had such a great dinner - the service was perfect and the food was excellent. Thoroughly reccommend a visit although it is expensive so treat yourself and sit outside!
