Pho Lan

Pho Lan has the casual intimacy of a family-run restaurant. The specialty is pho – thin strands of soft noodles wallowing in fragrant beef stock and crunchy bean sprouts. The spicy version is hit with lemongrass, ginger, onions and bones, and cooked for half a day. Also on the menu are rice paper rolls, sugar-cane sticks wrapped with prawn paste, sweet pomelo salads and fatty, charcoal-grilled pork seasoned with Vietnamese curry powder.

Questionable service
It's the service that's worth talking about: I spent the evening dining at this restaurant that I had been to several times previously. Food was not as good as usual, but the thing that really ruined the night was the unprofessional service: after we finished the meal, the bill came out including something we didn't ask for initially (and of course didn't use at all during the meal) - a pair of wet towels. And they charged us for it, claiming that it now became a mandatory chargeable item that had to be included in every receipt. It's something that never happened before. Ridiculous. We didn't feel exactly "ripped off" since it was not a significant amount of money charged. But we did end up having some kind of distrust that would not make us go back and visit it again. Bun cha Ha Noi. Pretty mediocre a dish, unlike other tasty dishes that they have on the menu. If you are just looking for a good dish in a quiet place for your dinner, this might still suit you well. However, regardless of the quality of the food and the setting and everything, I personally will not trust a restaurant anymore once they start providing questionable services.

Tasty Food is cooked to order and takes time
All chefs at Pho Lan is from Vietnam. Food is cooked when you order. It takes time but you know it's fresh and not something cooked and reheat up to serve you. Avoid rush hours to get the best food with little wait ;-) Pho Lan has been reviewed by many local medias so you know they are good! Her World, Business Times, Zaobao, Streetdirectory etc

I bet to differ...
As someone who has a mother growing up eating Viet dishes in Cambodia, and having been to Hanoi & HCMC in the past 2 years with Vietnamese friends, I found this restaurant's food authentic and tasty. Yes the food takes a while to come, but all good things deserve a little wait! I missed the Bun Cha in Hanoi so much and this place is the only one with something of a similar taste (though not in pork patties but pork chops), which still retained the roasted taste and the lovely juices from the meat. A little pricey, but if you're a student you'll get a discount. So being a student in SMU who loves Viet food, Pho Lan's highly recommended!

Terrible!
This restaurant is by far the worst I've been to in Singapore. We had to wait for half an hour for the food to come and every dish take 15 mins in between. After an hour an a half we just left without finishing the meal. The food was bad, service was terrible. We never come back here again.
