With today’s world often resembling a battleground between the East and West, punctuated by the war on terror, it can be hard to think back to a time when things were different. An Islamic History of Europe was produced by the BBC in 2005 as a documentary detailing the story of Europe’s Islamic past, a golden age when emirs and caliphs dominated Spain and Sicily, and Islamic scholarship swept into the major cities of Europe. It also reveals the debt Europeans owed to Islam for the spark that started the European Renaissance.
