It’s amazing that this is the first time this animated series has come to Singapore, especially after 11 years of critical acclaim. It was even voted by Time magazine as one of the best television series of all time for its realistic and acute observations on American life. The stories centre around the Hills, a suburban Methodist family proud of their Texas heritage, who live a very normal, fairly humdrum life. There is the war-veteran grandfather; the pudgy son with a (surprising) lack of interest in football; the stubborn, Boggle-obsessed wife; and the father Hank, who tries sticking to his principles of hard work in a world that rewards short cuts (call it a pained Boy Scout uprightness). Throw in the malls and Asian yuppies, and this is modern America under a microscope.
