Lie Lab
This event has finished
This three-part series uses the lie-detector test to examine three high-profile people who have been accused of – you guessed it – lying. The first episode tests two of the Tipton Three, ex-Guantánamo Bay detainees accused of terrorist acts, but eventually released without charge. The second is about a woman convicted of poisoning her daughter with salt, and the third is about Kathy O’Beirne, who wrote about being a victim of child sex abuse. Even though the lie-detection test has been scientifically proven to be 90 per cent accurate, its reliability has always come under scrutiny, and is not often considered a concrete form of evidence in most courts around the world. Curiously, O’Beirne and one of the Tipton Three refused to take the test, while the other of the Three eventually admitted to visiting an Islamist training camp and learning how to use an AK-47. The programme has resulted in numerous negative reactions on the web, but see for yourself if it’s as controversial as it sounds.
