A short walk from Chinatown and Clarke Quay, this four-star property is well sited, but is looking rather tired these days. Still, the good-sized swimming pool, landscaped grounds and extensive buffet breakfast are a draw, and there’s wireless broadband in all rooms. Service is decent, and the bellboys, many of whom have been working here for over 30 years, are well informed – the hotel is right next to the neon-lit Tiananmen KTV (a notorious ‘entertainment’ spot), so you can be sure they’ll have plenty of interesting stories to tell. The Waterfall Lounge is a soothing place for a drink. Practise your backhand on the tennis court and ease your muscles afterwards in the Jacuzzi.
