NLB: Treasures of the Rare Gallery

For the first time, the National Library Board’s opened its Rare Gallery to the public, featuring 38 curated items relating to Sir Stamford Raffles. Included are original autographed letters, his baptismal record, hand-coloured maps, and an obituary of Raffles – all of which were acquired from an extensive, 5000-item collection amassed by Dr. John Bastin over 50 years. Bastin’s considered the world’s leading authority on Singapore’s founder.
