I love Chinese New Year as much as the next over-eater, but there’s one thing I just can’t stand about the holiday: the sounds. The clang of the lion dance, the blare of ‘Gong Xi Fa Cai’ at my local shopping centre, the cackle of relatives as they realise I’m hitting 30 and still on the receiving end of hong baos… it’s all too much.
