Tuckshop beer, anyone?

Singapore has been thirsting for a made-to-order microbrew for a while, and The Tuckshop's worked with Archipelago Brewery to water the drought.

Back in the day when Jungle Beer used to brew custom-made beers for bars like Manhattan and Rabbit Carrot Gun, we had more variations of local beers on tap. Alas, since the indie brewery's closure way back in 2013, we've had to settle for the staples issued out of Brewerkz, Archipelago and Red Dot – not terrible stuff, but we want new flavours! New locally brewed beers to try!

And so, the hip Guillemard Road joint worked with Archipelago to create its own Tuckshop Edition ($9/half pint, $11/pint during happy hour, $14/pint) lager with flavours to knock the fangs off the tiger. Calamansi juice adds a refreshing zing to the clean-bodied golden brew, and gula melaka sweetens the lager for a more palatable taste that'll agree with even the beginner sipper. We're not fans of how the sugar has the powdery tang of artificial sweetener, but that's just the beer snob in us getting a little geeky.

Is Singapore's ridiculous heat getting to you? Why not pull up a bar chair, watch traffic go by and really savour a custom-made brew. Who knows when Singapore's next batch of specially brewed beers will come by again.
