Located on the second floor of cavernous suburban mall nex, DANRO provides yet another option from the mind-boggling selection of F&B restaurants on offer – it’s also the first Japanese hot pot venture by well-known local company Ministry of Food, who specialise in Japanese cuisine like their chain of My Izakaya restaurants. The claim to fame this time? Nabemono: nine specialty hot pot flavours, each from a different region of Japan. With the communal-style pot allowing you to choose two different broths to try, veer from the lighter ones (wafu) to the rich (chicken & milk, tonkotsu miso) and the spicy (chicken spicy); don’t forget to check out the informative map that points out the nine flavours and regions, including the various ingredients used.
For the reasonable prices, grab a plate and pile on the all-you-can-eat shabu shabu-style beef and pork, thinly sliced, and diced chicken, as well as fresh seafood and greens stations. Also available are cold appetisers like sushi and a variety of cooked food, but definitely worth the prices are the delish sauces (think ponzu, sesame goma and a spicy, local-inspired sambal chilli) and a traditional Japanese favourite making its debut in Singapore – the Kiritanpo, marinated rice skewers lightly grilled for a crisp exterior that you can soak in your broth.
