Dancing with Death

Choreographed by the award-winning Pichet Klunchun, Dancing with Death focuses on the world between the living and the dead. Inspired by the Thai festival Phi Ta Khon, which celebrates fertility and death, the dance performance aims to navigate the path of human existence. Dancing with Death features costumes by fashion designer Flynow, and light and sound landscapes by Asako Miura and Hiroshi Iguchi. Staged as part of Esplanade’s da:ns series.

In his 13th solo exhibition, local artist Anthony Chua portrays in his own style the shophouses found along Chinatown, Joo Chiat and Boat Quay. The five-time award winner at the annual UOB Painting of the Year competition – he’s best known for his use bold brush strokes – evokes nostalgia in his latest series of contemporary Chinese ink paintings, which highlight distinct features found in old shophouses, such as the oft-photographed Peranakan wall tiles.

In celebration of Sugarhall's second anniversary, the bar has invited Toshiyuki Kubo and Mariko Shigenai, the 2013 finalist and 2014 first runner-up of the DIAGEO World Class respectively, to join the party. Expect some unqiue cocktails ($22) from the talented duo and experience for yourself, the drinks that won them numerous bartending competitions.

Getai Soul Music Festival

Fort Canning and Gardens by the Bay are probably top of mind when it comes to venues for music festivals, but here’s one that’s pitching its tents in Pearl's Hill City Park. Getai Soul is a two-day funk, soul and jazz fest whose line-up features the likes of local musos Charlie Lim and the Mothership, soul siren Vandetta and funk outfit The Good Life Project alongside regional acts. They'll be sharing the stage with regional acts the likes of Zee FeeDo, a neo soul band from Japan. And true to its name, the festival also puts on Teochew puppetry and Cantonese opera shows, just for kicks.
