When to go to Split

Split’s weather, climate, festivals, events and public holidays

By Peterjon Cresswell

Although a summer-oriented destination, Split offers plenty of entertainment all year round. The cultural season is centred on the Split Festival and Split Film Festival, both staged in summer, but there should be enough culture, sport and general leisure activity to amuse most visitors all year round. Some clubs, restaurants and hotels are summer-only and/or take a break in January.

Weather & climate

Split has a Mediterranean climate of hot summers and mild winters. Temperatures can climb well past 30 degrees centigrade in July or August.

Festivals & events

The Split Festival and Split Film Festival bookend the high season. Look out also for the carnival in February.
