    • Escape to Hurghada

    • Escape to Hurghada

Thinking of taking a break in the sun but it’s blowing a gale outside your window? Throw yourself into the Egyptian bustle of this Red Sea resort.

    • Enter our competition to win a seven-night stay in a four-star hotel in Hurghada, including return flights, for you and a friend!

      1. Diving and snorkelling

There are several diving centres in Hurghada, many attached to major hotels. Whether you’re a novice or you want to put your scuba diving lessons into practice, this is a perfect central point along the Red Sea coast. Try www.holidays.easyjet.com or www.redsea-divers.com.

      2. Ed-Dahar

Bazaar shopping in Hurghada’s old town is a suitably crazy experience, but practise your haggling skills before you go. This area is also good for small restaurants in characterful back streets, but if you want a meal with a view, head for the area of Sigala and restaurants like Felfela (Sheraton Road), which overlooks the sea.

      3. Sunkissed beaches

In Hurghada, the average daytime temperature rarely drops below 20C in December or January, and chilly nights hardly ever require anything more than a jumper or jacket.

      4. The Giftun Islands

You can take a trip out to sea in a glass-bottomed boat, but it’s worth shopping around for a deal on an excursion to the Giftun Islands, a conservation area with carefully limited access.

      5. Jeep safari

There are regular daytrips into the desert, offering a wild ride for camel-spotting and the chance to watch the sunset over a barbecue at a Bedouin camp. Or for a more extreme experience, take a five-day camping trip or the option of surfing the sand on the back of a quad bike. For contact details of trip organisers, try the Tourist Office (Resort Strip, Hurghada, 065 344 4420).

      6. easyJet Holidays
