In 2003, Clarion opened this gleaming 532-room property on the southern edge of Södermalm. Despite its size, it is surprisingly classy. Bedrooms are airy and stylish, bathrooms are smart, the lobby is flooded with light and the staff are attentive. Because it's primarily a business hotel, room rates plummet in summer and on weekends. For tourists, the main drawback is the poor location: it's on the opposite side of town from Arlanda airport and a bit of a schlep from the city centre (but then nowhere is that far in Stockholm). The lounge bar, called Upstairs, has spectacular views towards Globen.
