This public amusement park was built in the 1970s, when Canadian nationalism (and, some would say, government spending) was at its zenith. The private sector has since stolen all the thunder at Paramount Canada's Wonderland north of the city, but Ontario Place retains the pleasure of its lakeside location. The walkways, cafés and the world's first IMAX theatre are built out over the water, and many of the rides - from water slides to a nifty log-boat ride - involve getting at least a little wet. The pedal boats, normally the runt of the amusement park litter, are fun, as you can chug in and out of the futuristic structures that criss-cross the water. The park is also home to the Molson Amphitheatre, a 15,000-capacity alfresco venue, where fans spread out on the grass hill or take the reserved seats to watch top summertime touring acts.
