Helped by its proximity to the University of Toronto, this has long been one of the city's premier rock clubs. The high, wide stage, rockin' bartenders and good sight-lines are other assets of the 600-capacity venue. Nirvana played their first Toronto gig here, and it remains a great place to see those climbing the rock 'n' roll ladder. On the second floor, the 250-capacity Dance Cave hosts DJs spinning alternative rock, retro new wave, and dance hits.

The venue is just right size to enjoy established or up incoming indie rock acts from across North America and Europe. I know I'm dating myself but during my University of Toronto days I saw Blur play here in support of their "Leisure" album during their first tour of North America in the early 90's. If you know New York think Bowery Ballroom. It's located in an area called "The Annex" with a number of affordable restaurants and bars to keep both the locals and college kids very happy.
