Sister to the original Metropolitan, the SoHo Met joins a clutch of swanky hotels in the Entertainment District. The ersatz name was a lame attempt to add cachet, but there was no need: the rooms are generously sized, and the decor is a winning combo of minimalism and cosiness (plenty of blond wood and hugely comfy beds); the sumptuous marble bathrooms come with Molton Brown toiletries. The hotel's location, in party central, means it's not far from bar to bed, but late-night revellers and traffic can sometimes be heard through the floor-to-ceiling windows. For eating and drinking, choose from Senses restaurant (in transition from fusion to Asian), the attached bar (beautifully lit at night) and Sensesbakery (Euro-style breakfasts featuring excellent pastries and coffees). And if you've overindulged - or vegged out too much in front of your big flat-screen TV - burn off the calories in the gym or pool.
