A new name, some radical landscaping and a location in a suddenly trendy area of the city do nothing to quash the retro feel of this classic motor inn. It's a stone's throw from Madeleine's, one of the city's top restaurants, but a world - and budget - apart. Rates include breakfast and parking comes at a nominal fee (a godsend this close to downtown). Though fancy wine bars are popping up all over the neighbourhood to serve the condo-dwelling hipsters, this basic hotel still manages to keep its 1950s cool. And the shops of Queen Street West are a short walk away.
