Cheap and cheerful is the best way to describe this chain hotel, situated across the street from Allan Gardens and its greenhouses. Built in 1929 as a block of apartments and recently designated a historic building, it retains some quirks from the early days: the elevator shafts are smaller than average, while the old (refinished) cast-iron bathtubs are larger than average. The hotel shares its parking lot, pool and gym with an adjacent condominium complex. The neighbourhood is sketchy at night, but the downtown core is a short walk or ride by streetcar.
