For the flagship property of the Toronto-based luxury chain, this Four Seasons seems to be missing the X factor (little wonder they are building a brand-new one, scheduled to open this decade). The rooms are nice enough, the huge suites are good value if you can afford them, and there's a staff of 600 to serve a maximum of 764 guests, but it lacks a certain panache. That said, it's still the preferred resting spot for the upmarket Yorkville shopping crowd, not to mention countless A-list movie, opera and rock stars. The four restaurants include the swanky Truffles and the light and airy Avenue bar and lounge - an attempt to maintain a youthful image. The partial outdoor pool is kept at 35C (95F) in winter, so you can swim when it snows.
