The timing was a bit off: the Pantages was named after a neighbouring theatre that changed its name just before the hotel opened. But this condo/hotel tower is more chic than theatrical. The top floors are condos, which makes for a mixed crowd in the lobby. Rooms have a minimalist feel, with fluffy white duvets and funky leather chairs in the larger rooms, though the small bathrooms can be a letdown. The mod cons are a forte: each room features a generous kitchenette, with hob, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, washer and dryer. While the home-from-home comforts might not be everyone's cup of tea (there's something odd about sleeping within arm's reach of the stove and fridge), these extras are useful. 'Serenity Rooms' come with yoga mats and air purifiers, and everyone is encouraged to tune into the meditation channel, while the salon (sorry, 'Anti-Aging & Longevity Spa') has a range of beautifying or relaxing treatments. The less health-conscious can sip Martinis in the new modish bar. If you're peckish, pop next door to Fran's diner, or, a better option, the Senator diner across the road.
