For a memorable bout of bargain shopping, don't miss Honest Ed's. It is owned by Ed Mirvish, the 90-something proprietor and theatre impresario who brought London's Old Vic Theatre back to life in the 1980s. And his showmanship shines through: the emporium is decked out in Vegas vaudeville-meets-old school merchandising style, with flashing lights and garish signs. Autographed publicity shots of old West End stars stare out across the heaps of undergarments and rubber boots. The impresario's artier side can be seen around the corner on Markham Street, where Mirvish Village houses artists' studios, galleries and speciality bookstores.
